Flooring Tips: Designing a Child’s Room

Your child will go from toddler to teen in the blink of an eye, so getting their room right from the start will save you time and money. You need a space that can adapt with their style and needs over time.

From our experience, invest in the big stuff like quality flooring and rugs that will stand the test of time.

Kids love rolling around and playing on the floor, so picking floor types that are durable but also appealing for your children and you to spend time on is key.

Wool is extremely sustainable and eco-friendly and in design terms has the bounce-back factor, holds colour brilliantly and is beautifully tactile. Wool carpets also provide a wonderful sense of cosiness in winter and are extremely breathable in summer.

Available in a huge range of colours and textures, a hard wearing nylon carpet will stand up to the heavy foot traffic of friends, dirty feet and any food and drink spills.

If you’d prefer a hardwood flooring, a simple rug can soften and divide a room into separate spaces. Create a nook where your child can craft, learn and create. You can even dress the space in pillows and soft furnishings for added effect.

The most important thing in a child’s room is their own personality, so get your child involved by showing them a few options.

Letting your child’s personal style direct the look of their bedroom will help create a space that is their own and a place that will grow as they do.
