Guide to timber flooring
Hardwood flooring has an unmatched natural beauty that will compliment any decor, be it modern, traditional or country in style. Timber flooring also comes in a variety of types and styles to fit different needs and budgets.
Unfinished or finished?
Unfinished hardwood flooring is a great option if you want to apply your own finish or if you need to match the color of existing flooring. Prefinished hardwood comes sanded and sealed, so there’s no need to do anything after it’s installed.
Solid or engineered?
Solid hardwood flooring comes in planks 5/8 to 3/4 inches thick, and because it’s solid wood, can be sanded and refinished many times over. However, solid wood can be susceptible to changes in humidity, so can shift over time. Engineered hardwood flooring is a veneer of real wood glued to several layers of wood underneath. This gives engineered wood excellent stability over time and depending on the thickness of the veneer can only be sanded and refinished once or twice during its lifetime.
Which hardwood is best?
Hardwood floors are made with wood species that are readily available and most importantly very hard. Species include Oak, Ash, Jarrah, Spotted Gum, Blackbutt and Bamboo.
